FAQ
Is there an age limit to learn freediving?
The minimum age I will teach to is 10 years old as long as the child is attentive and respective during teaching. There is no maximum age limit as long as a person possesses a good level of fitness.
How fit should I be to start freediving?
The only physical requirement needed to is to be able to swim 200 m non-stop without a time limit with any stroke or swim 300 m with a mask, snorkel, and fins. Swimming is a basic skill that will ensure your safety once in water and will make you feel more comfortable during the course.
The biggest difficulty that most person face during a freediving is ear equalization and any problem connected with ears or nasal sinuses may affect your progress or even make diving impossible.
For women being pregnant might be an issue for deep diving. You will have to fill out a medical form to confirm that you do not have any health condition that is not safe for freediving. It is recommended to consult with your physician before enrolling in a freediving course.
Can I freedive even if I smoke?
Smoking affects more the lungs of a person than the person’s ability to hold his/her breath. You can still learn how to freedive even if you smoke but if you want to progress faster, some changes in your lifestyle are recommended. I’ve trained and know freedivers who smoke and do over 3 minutes easily in static apnea while I know others who gave up smoking once they got hooked on freediving.
What equipment am I required to have for the courses?
All necessary equipment will be provided for the duration of the training at no extra fee. You get a 10% discount if you have your own full set of equipment of mask, snorkel, fins, and wetsuit.
If you are a beginner, it is advised not to buy any equipment unless you are properly advised. 9 out of 10 persons I’ve come across who had bought their equipment before being properly trained, either bought equipment they did not really need at their current level, or that were not a good fit for them.
Do you offer group discount?
Yes, I do. I offer a 10% discount for bookings involving 2-3 persons who are related. I do not teach strangers together nor accept bookings of more than 3 persons.
Why are your prices higher than other freediving courses around?
Usually, when people ask me this question, they are comparing what I am charging for private freediving teaching to what other instructors are charging for group teaching.
If you do a quick search for “private freediving courses” on the internet you will see that my prices are actually if not the cheapest, among the cheapest worldwide for private freediving coaching and training with an experienced instructor.
I am so confident of that fact that, if you were able to find another freediving instructor of the same caliber as myself meaning having 15 years+ of teaching experience, with an understanding of breathing techniques gained not just from a freediving perspective but also from a yogic and wellness background, and who is charging less than I do, I will gladly match the price.
Apart from that and without wanting to cause prejudice to other freediving instructors, I am confident that the value that I bring in my teachings and the quality of my pedagogy is simply incomparable to others.
While it takes only a couple of weeks to become a freediving instructor with any reputed freediving organization, it took me years to acquire the knowledge and skills, and polish my pedagogy so that I can help my students reach their freediving goals in less time than I did.
Besides if you look at what I am offering in terms of content and the price per session compared to what a level 1 and 2 freediving courses with a standard organization offer, you will notice that I bring more value at a lesser cost than these.
I personally do not know many freediving instructors who give back that much value to their students.
Maybe the more appropriate question to ask is why are the other freediving instructors charging less than I do.
Are there any additional fees I should be aware of?
The prices as listed on the website cover all the expenses. There won’t be any bad surprise.
Does the training come with certification?
There is no certification involved with training freediving under my watch. However what you won’t get with certification, you will get in knowledge and skills development that no other standard certified freediving course will ever give you.
Do you compete in Freediving?
No I don’t compete, primarily because freediving as a sport is still in its very infancy with a lot of wrongdoings. I am very well versed with the competitive though and have trained freedivers at an elite level for pool disciplines.
